Public Health England established the Antibiotic Guardian campaign to provide simple messages to help safeguard existing antibiotics and reduce needless demand. Such initiatives are pullulating general populations, health professionals, and more recently those in other environmental sectors. Moving towards a 'one-world' approach, these campaigns are capable of wide-spread dissemination, and expected to have some effect on reducing unnecessary demand and supply of antibiotics now and in the future.

The Antibiotic Guardian campaign is one driver for the University of Manchester's Flagship Programme to Reduce the Spread of Antibiotic Resistance. Already the University of Manchester has received two national awards for this novel, 'one-campus' awareness campaign, which includes Student Ambassadors for Antibiotic Guardianship, Primary and Secondary school interventions, and city-wide public engagement events. Furthermore, it is linking with Health Education England and Public Health England to create open-access teaching platforms to ensure all students, regardless of their discipline, graduate with at least a basic, yet important understanding of the what, why's and how of antibiotic resistance.

Right now, you can show your allegiance to the public awareness campaign by registering at www.antibioticguardian.com Making your pledge helps highlight the antibiotic guardianship message to others. And remember: Clean Hands Save Lives.
