Dr Emma Katz, Senior Lecturer in Childhood & Youth, Liverpool Hope University
Dr Emma Katz is Senior Lecturer in Childhood & Youth at Liverpool Hope University and is the author of the much-anticipated monograph Coercive Control in Children’s and Mothers’ Lives (Oxford University Press, June 2022). She was a member of the Expert Advisory Panel for the HARM Network/Research England’s Domestic Abuse Policy Guidance for UK Universities (2021), and with Dr Roxanne Khan is co-editing a forthcoming special issue of the Journal of Aggression, Conflict and Peace Research on ‘Domestic Abuse and Family Violence in the UK: The Impact of COVID-19’. Her research centres on the impacts of domestic violence and abuse on children and young people, and explores coercive control, agency, resistance, recovery, and mother-child supportiveness in contexts of domestic abuse. Her publications are internationally acclaimed, winning awards including the Wiley Prize for best paper published in Child Abuse Review 2015–18, and the Corinna Seith Prize judged by Women Against Violence Europe (WAVE). Her work is also cited regularly in government policy (UK and Australia) and by key organisations and practitioners in the field. She produced a REF2021 Impact Case Study on the impacts of her domestic violence research, she gives numerous invited talks and bespoke training workshops to practitioners in the UK and overseas, and she has made numerous contributions (interviews, TV/radio appearances and consultancy work) for UK newspapers and media broadcast networks including Channel 4, ITV, and the BBC.
