Professor Cathy Vaughan
Associate Professor Cathy Vaughan is Head of the Gender and Women's Health Unit and Co-Director for Health Equity at the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health. She is also Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Women's Health hosted by the University of Melbourne. She has extensive experience leading research to improve prevention of and responses to violence against women, with a focus on violence against migrant and refugee women, women in faith communities, women with disabilities, and women in the Pacific region. Cathy co-leads the kNOwVAWdata program of training and mentoring to build capacity to conduct rigorous, safe and ethical research on violence against women in Asia and the Pacific; a program that has recently been funded to expand to have a global focus. She has particular expertise in the use of qualitative and participatory research methods, having used such methods to examine health and wellbeing with women and young people in diverse settings in Australia, Asia and the Pacific for over twenty years.
